In the Presbyterian Church USA, we believe in and practice infant baptism. This means
that when a young person is old enough and prepared to profess their belief in Jesus as
the Christ and Savior of the World, they have an opportunity to “confirm” the vows that
their parent(s) and/or other adult(s) in their lives took at the time of their infant baptism.
Of course if a young person has not been baptized and are ready to make that
commitment, they are welcome to let our pastor know.
Confirmation is not a membership class. It is a faith exploration class. Our Confirmation
class is a very interactive class that is open to questions, wondering, exploring, and
ultimately helping young people learn more about their beliefs. Each Confirmand selects
a mentor to walk the Confirmation journey with them. We also ask the
parent(s)/guardian(s) to participate in the class. This way conversation is sparked and
faith is deepened.
Our Confirmation class begins with a retreat in the fall for the Confirmands and their
mentors. We meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 6:30 to 8 pm. This is the
time that Confirmands, mentors, parents/guardians join together. There is a mid-year
retreat in January. The class concludes in April with a special service time in worship
recognizing the Confirmands. Those who wish to join the church do so at this time.
Those who wish to be baptized are baptized at this time.
